Habang nakasakay ako sa LRT pauwi, papuntang Mento, may napansin na naman ang aking mga mata na naisip kong ilagay sa trail ng blog kong “Biyahe Papuntang Trabaho” pero naisip ko na pauwi naman ako at mas mabuti na gumawa na lang ako ng panibagong blog trail na “Galing Trabaho” naman ang tema. Kaya ito ako ngayon nag-uumpisang gumawa ng blog items para sa temang ito.

This week yata yun, mga June 22, Monday nung pauwi na ako, medyo siksikan yung araw na yun ng mga pasahero pero bihira akong maka-encounter ng ganung sitwasyon sa LRT for the past 1.5 months na sumasakay ako. Di ko sigurado kung estudyante yun, pero mukha naman. In short, naki-usyoso ako sa binabasa nung tao, nagulat ako nung nakita ko ang mga salitang mga mura sa bandang gitna nung page na binabasa “namin”. Talagang mga mura, purong mura at iba’t-ibang klase ng mura na isinisingit sa mga lines ng sentence. Eh di mas lalo akong na-curious, gusto kong malaman ngayon kung sino yung author nung book na yun. Iniisip ko na lang na sana yung ibang books na sinulat ng author na yun ay hindi katulad nung libro na yun. Napakahirap isipin para sa akin na ganun yung laman ng mga libro na mga sikat ang gumagawa, o baka naman dun talaga sila, pero sana hindi naman. Alam ko kasi sikat siya eh.

O sige na, bago ko makalimutan, ang author na nakita ko sa taas ng bawat pahina nung book/booklet ay si Bob Ong.

Heto na naman po ako, nagsusulat ng talata para sa “Biyahe papuntang trabaho” at ito ang pangalawa.

Two months na nung huling entry ko dito sa blog ko at kailangan na sigurong mag-add entry na naman ako. Sobrang naging busy ako masyado the past two months na pati yung regular na pag entry ko sa isang forum site na dinadalaw ko regularly ay nakaligtaan ko na rin.

Pag LRT and kinukuha kong biyahe pauwi medyo mas matagal kaysa sa MRT. Hindi ito dahil sa mas makupad ang LRT na trains (dahil sa sobrang mas luma na?) kundi ito ay sa kadahilanang ang sakayan ng “FX” sa Monumento ay sobrang kupad kaysa sa sakayan ng “FX” sa North Edsa. Kaya kahit mas mahaba yung nilalakad ko papunta sa MRT Taft Station sa EDSA ay dun pa rin ako sumasakay. Ay sus, grabe ginoo ko, inaabot ako ng 30 minutes to 45 minutes para makasakay ng “FX” sa mento.

Pero pag papasok naman ako, LRT ako lagi kasi mas mabilis naman makasakay ng FX sa amin papuntang mento. Nung nag-umpisa ang pasukan nung Monday, june 15, na-late ako ng 45 minutes, waaaahhhh. Pero pareho lang ang oras ng alis ko sa bahay dati, ano naman ang dapat magbago di ba? Kung dati nag-aantay ng jeep sa amin ng pasahero ng matagal ngayon hindi na masyado, pero ganun pa rin kasi yung susunod nun dapat kasunod pa rin.

Ang magandang balita ito, dahil tayong mga Pinoy ay mahilig sa “Ningas-kugon”, nung Tuesday at mga sumunod na araw naging medyo mabuti-buti na ulit ang biyahe ko papuntang trabaho. Pero kung laging maagap ang mga tao hindi lang sa unang araw, siguro kinailangan kong magdagdag ng konting panahon ulit sa byahe ko papasok sa trabaho.

Oo nga pala, mabuti na lang may shuttle service yung building kung nasaan ang aming office. Salamat sa Panginoon, bawas P 7.00 sa araw-araw.

Just yesterday, my officemate was working on her update on the organization’s website that I’m working with. She’s trying to put an important article that is needed in the homepage.

We’ve successfully worked on the output of the linked pdf file as well as the video file. They were working great except for the border that we want to get rid off the article because it’s destroying the aesthetics of the site. I have tried to check the “border” tag of the “table” but it was already displaying “0″ as its value. We tried to refresh the page because we thought that it might not really refreshing at all. But same output came out, the border is still there.

The original code is like this (please include the opening symbols “more than” at the beginning and “less than” at the end, respectively):

I’ve tried also some recoding of the original lines like adding “bordercolor=”#FFFFFF” since the background of the page is white but that did not worked out. And as the last resolution, I’ve tried to integrate an inline CSS in the “style” tag with “bordercolor:#FFFFFF;” and alas, the border of the main table was gone.

If you happen to encounter this problem, you can do the same and also after adding the inline CSS “style” attribute “bordercolor” you can actually remove the tag inside the “table”.

What is “padding” in web design and development? According to w3schools.com, “the CSS padding properties define the space between the element border and the element content. Negative values are not allowed. The top, right, bottom, and left padding can be changed independently using separate properties. A shorthand padding property is also created to control multiple sides at once.”

How about a “margin”? From the definition above, we can say that a “margin” is the space outside the element border and around it.

Now, with regards to padding in browser compatibility issue, they throw different outputs in different browsers. You can have a value of 0 in your code of the padding in Internet Explorer but have a 1[+] value for Firefox. As an example, let’s say we have a bulleted unordered list at the right hand portion of an image which is the left element (positioned at the left). Stick to the fact that the list does not (yet) go down beyond the height of the image on the left. With IE(7), there is no need to define a value of the “padding” or you can set it to 0, that wouldn’t create any misalignment of the elements present with respect to the image on the left and the list on the right. But for FF(3), you would have a [+] value of the padding in the element list. Below is a sample code for IE and FF using CSS.

In these codes, please note that the value of the padding is true and equivalent to its “top”, “right”, “bottom”, and “left” (T,R,B,L) sides. While setting it to in the case of Firefox, will make its “top=5px”, “right=3px”, “bottom=5px”, and “left=3px” respectively.

Did you notice something in the code? We have a missing “ul” tag and its equivalent ending tag “/ul”. What does this relate to the unordered list that we have in our example? If we want an indented list with respect to the element on the left which is the image then we can insert the tag “ul-/ul”. By the way, the browser defaults the list to be an unordered list “ul”. But if we want the list to be aligned with any other element (on the right side per our example) example: text paragraphs then we can omit the “ul-/ul” tag.

Magandang araw po, ang pangalan ko po ay Gary Granada. Ako po ay isang song writer o composer at ang hanap-buhay ko ay gumawa ng mga jingles.

Kung kaya ako ay kinomisyon ng GMA Kapuso Foundation na gumawa ng jingle para sa kampanyang Threepid Handog Edukasyon ng Proctor and Gamble. Gaya ng nakasanayan sa advertising industry binigyan nila ako ng lyrics, which I’m supposed to set to music, na dapat ang haba ay sixty seconds. Eto po yung binigay nila:

Obviously, ginamit nila yung edited lyrics batay sa pagkasukat ko. Pero hindi lang po yun ang isyu. Bukod sa lyrics, ginamit din nilang tuntungan ang musical structure na ginawa ko. At ipapaliwanag ko sa inyo kung paano.

Ang musicial composition ay may tatlong basic elements.

Una, ay yung tono. Halimbawa, sa A-B-C-D-E-F-G, ang tono ay, DO-DO-SOL-SOL-LA-LA-SOL. Ngayon, kung gagawa ka ng kantang, ABCDEFG na ganito, A-B-C-D-E-F-G, o, SO-LA-TI-DO-TI-LA-SOL. Hindi mo ngayon yun completely original na creation dahil sinakyan mo lang ang pinagpaguran ng iba. At nagiging madaling gawin, precisely because, sinukat na yung piyesa nung gumawa nung original.

Ang ikalawang element ay tinatawag na balor ng mga nota. Halimbawa, ang mga nota ng DO-DO-SOL-SOL-LA-LA-SOL, ay anim na magkasunod na quarter notes at isang half note. Iba po yun kaysa halimbawa apat na magkasunod na eight notes, isang dotted quarter note, isang eight note ulit at isang half note na ganito naman, DO-DO-SOL-SOL-LA-LA-SOL.

And finally ang ikatlong element ng musical composition ay ang harmonic logic. Sa lay persons term ay yun yun kung saan dumadaan ang chords at kung kailan lumilipat. Halimbawa, ang A-B-C-D-E-F-G, ay C papuntang F tapos balik sa C. Hindi magwo-work yung ilalagay mo yung F sa huli. A-B-C-D-E-F-G. Hindi rin magwowork kung, sa A dumaan papuntang D minor, halimbawa, A-B-D-C-E-F-G, pero pwede yung daanan na yun kung ang kantang yun ay, “He– answers prayers”.

At para patunayan ko sa inyo na ginawa nilang tuntungan yung aking komposisyon, kakantahin ko yung jingle sa tono na pinagawa nila sa iba, kasabay nung minus one na study na ginawa ko.

Think about it, yung mga parteng may kanta ay mga mga kantang twenty eight na bara yun. Yung probability na magkaruon na magkahawig mula umpisa hanggang dulo ay ganito. Nagsumbong ako sa FILSCAP, yun po yung Filipino Society of Composers, Authors(http://rllqph.wordpress.com) and Publishers. Nagpadala ito ng sulat sa GMA, tinanong namin kung bakit di nila ginawa yung friendly reminder namin, na kung ipagawa nila sa iba, ang ibigay nila sa gagawa ay yung original nilang lyrics at h’wag gamitin ang ginawa kong study.

At kung napansin ninyong hindi gaanong maganda ang quality ng audio nung jingle na brinodcast nila, ay kasi ni record ko lang yun galing sa TV mismo. Paano kasi, mahigit isang buwan na akong nag re request kahit mp3 man lang nun for reference ay di man lang ako binigyan. Nabanggit din yun sa sulat ng FILSCAP, di man lang sinagot. Napaka-arogante.

Sa halip, ang sagot ng GMA, ay wala akong claim dahil yun daw ginawa ko ay collective effort namin. Siguro parang ganito, halika upo tayo at mag compose tayo collectively. Kung ganun, eh di ibig sabihin pala, kung paano sinukat yung lyrics at music para magkasya sa isang minuto ay collective naming ginawa yun. Yung paano pagtugmahin yung mga letra sa mga nota ay collective naming ginawa yun. Yun kung saan dalhin ang daloy ng harmony ay collective naming ginawa yun. Halimbawa yung, aking kinabukasan, sabi ko, ok ba sa inyo kung gawin ko na lang bukas, aking kinabukasan, pito, pitong syllables, bukas, dalawa lang. Tatango-tango naman yung iba. Ganun pala mag compose collectively.

Ang hindi nila naiintidihan, kaya ko sinuggest yung bukas kasi concious ako na pasok yun duon sa melody na naiisip ko. At kaya nga naging madali na lang gawan ng ibang tono ng iba, kasi finormat ko na yung original lyrics mo, na magiging singable at musical. Hindi na lang yun prose, poetry o freeverse. Ginawa ko nang musical yung metro, bigkas at sukat ng copy mo. Kaya nga ang tawag sa inyo ay copywriter, at ang tawag sa akin ay composer. Kasi, babalen-balentungin mo man yang utak mo ng isang milyung beses, hindi mo ma-compose yung lyrics na yun ng ganun.

And you have the audacity to tell me that my composition is our collective effort. In fairness to you, you have a very imaginative mind. Baka sabihin ngayon ng mga fans ko, sir, I have a collection of your collective compositions.

Seriously, yun pong mag compose ng kanta hindi naman siguro yun basta-basta gawin na lang ng kahit sino. Mas lalo na yung mag compose ka ng exactly sixty seconds na kanta. Pero ang natutuhan ko sa loob ng thirty years, minaliit ng GMA network duon din sa sagot na sulat na pirmado ni Atty. Dick Perez na kanilang abugado. Nakalagay po duon.

These changes we’re not made by Mr. Granada alone. One word from Mr. Granada or even three, assuming without admitting, that all changes were made by Mr. Granada does not make the piece his own.

Para akong sinabihan na, aangkinin mo ito eh wala ka namang ginawa liban na palitan ang isang salita.

It did not thirty days to finish that composition. It took me thirty years to hone the skill required to create that composition. Ngayon ipamumukha mo sa akin na ginawa ko lang ay palitan ko ang isang salita. At may nalalaman pa itong mga abugadong ito, na assuming without admitting.

Unang-una po, liwanagin ko lang. Hinding-hindi ko inaangkin yung nilabas nila sa TV. Frankly, ayoko yung mga tono na ganun. Bakit ko naman aangkinin yun? In fact, dahil ayaw ko yung kinalabasan, naiinis pa lalo tuloy na isiping may kinalaman pala ako duon.

Ganun pa man, ang sinasabi ko, hindi sila makakagawa nun, kung hindi nila sinamantala ang aking ginawa. Again, ang kini-claim ko, hindi sila makakagawa nun, hindi man ako nagagandahan duon, o gandang-ganda man sila duon. Hindi nila magagawa yun kung hindi nila sinamantala ang study na gawa ko.

And if we will just let GMA Kapuso Foundation and Proctor and Gamble get away with it, that is like applauding their arrogance and condoning stealing. And to think that GMA as publisher, sits in the board of FILSCAP which protects the writes of composers and lyricist. At may mga anti-piracy anti-piracy ka pa minsang kampanyang napapalabas sa GMA.

Kung hahayaan natin ito, what is now stopping anyone from commissioning artists in general to make studies only to reject them, make easily done modifications out of their hard work and pass them of as entirely new creation all together?

Ninakawan mo na yung mangagawa sa pinagpaguran niya, dinuro-duro mo pa na wala siyang claim dahil wala naman siyang ginawang significant.

Ha… *sigh*

Which makes me wonder? Saan napunta ngayon yung puso sa GMA Kapuso Foundation?

Ayyayay! I can’t access our ftp site here in the office today. I have to upload the files that were recently updated. So, instead of wasting my time doing nothing, I’m writing this blog about it (and some related issues), hehehe. Even our chat messenger services here, I can’t connect through them.

Others use proxy (servers) to connect to some websites that were blocked so that they can access those sites. Well, in fairness (which is really supposed to be true) to our company, we should not be flooding our servers with this websites that cause heavy traffic to the network which will cause problems in any given time. I think the problem would be minimal only if people would know the real use of these sites and how to use them effectively. But of course who can blame them? In effect, this is the use of these networking sites and it’s what they were made of.

So, in short, it is normal then that these sites are blocked from any company that sees it’s appropriate to do so. We can’t blame them.

I should be emailing our IT department but I think they’re too busy to do it for me. Hmmm, I can wait for an hour or so to retry the uploading process that I’m doing. So that’s it, bye for now!

I have already emailed our IT department; I cannot wait any longer, hehehe. I need to finish this work. By now, I’m still waiting for the response or any solution they might post.

This has been a “thing” for most web designers and web developers. Every time you design a website, you’ve got to really consider its graphical output in major browsers if not to all of them. Basically, I believe that the most used browser nowadays are Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox 2 and 3 and maybe Safari or Opera. How would one go about the issue on “browser compatibility”? One can use either javascript or maybe PHP, ASP or any scripting programs that can possibly do the trick.

Many of my previous website projects and in the current ones, I used a combination of javascript and PHP script to handle this issue. There are so many free javascripts or other scripting programs that are free in the net. You would just of course select what’s best for you or what is most applicable to your coding environment.

Why? How important is this? Maybe at first thought, this could not be as vital as the real output one can show in one of the major browsers. But the dilemma is, not all your viewers have the same browser that you or your company is using. This is practically important also most especially when the website you’re working on is an e-commerce site. You will loose potential customers when they see your website from their browser when it displays garbage output (visually). And when you’re doing for a client, it will a big plus for you or your company, naturally. Not only that, you will earn the positive effect of doing it in your projects.

Now, what comes with this issue is the proper adjustment of CSS files that you’ll be doing with the browsers that you have selected. Of course one browser is (kind of a) different from another. Even with a browser that has different versions, your CSS will still vary (in one way or another). This is particularly applicable when you’re using a TABLELESS coding style. But of course it will still possibly be applied in a code with TABLES.

As far as my experience is concern, Internet Explorer 6 and 7 has many differences in their output when a single CSS is being used. Take note, this are versions of the same browser. While with Firefox 2 and 3, I have observed only few differences in their requirements of CSS tags. Between Firefox and Safari (for Windows) they have also a few differences in their CSS tags. These statements may not be necessarily true with other designers or developers.

To conclude, BROWSER COMPATIBILITY issue should be addressed in your coding works for your website projects.

Here I am again; want to talk about my reconnected SmartBro.  Anyway, don’t be bothered because this write-up will only be a short one.  Guess what?  Yeah, I have applied for reconnection of it, ehehe, I am happy again.  I’ve got works to be done that’s why.  With regards to the upstream and downstream experiences I have now, it has been as good as before like the other night, I was downloading files from my email and wooosh it went.  That was very fair enough to reconnect my SmartBro connection.
